Wilton, CT – On Saturday, November 2, Mountainside treatment center will be co-sponsoring Wilton’s Day of Recovery and Wellness for the sober curious, people in recovery, and their families. The free event will be held at 48 New Canaan Road. It will feature speakers, breakout sessions related to addiction and recovery, AA and Al-Anon meetings, film screenings, and more – all with the aim of destigmatizing addiction in the Wilton community and beyond.

The Day of Recovery and Wellness will feature a sound healing meditation presented by Mountainside as well as informational sessions. Workshops will include a training for families along with discussions about trauma and addiction; teen brain development and substance use; families and enabling; and aging and substance use. The event will offer critical support services as well as a fun, welcoming atmosphere that will include food trucks and live music.

“Many people feel overwhelmed by the thought of sobriety because they assume they will never be able to socialize or enjoy life again without alcohol or drugs,” says Amy Sedgwick, Director of Clinical Operations at Mountainside. “We are proud to be a part of this effort to help individuals, families, and the community see the benefits of embracing healthy, substance-free lives.”

The keynote address will be delivered by John Hamilton, LMFT, LADC, who will be discussing the importance of recovery capital for individuals and communities. Mental health professionals will also be on site to answer questions.

“This all started as a project for my sabbatical from Wilton Presbyterian Church which was in May,” says Rev. Shannon White, Pastor at Wilton Presbyterian Church. “I wanted to create an event which would get a lot of different people in the same place – those in recovery, professionals in the industry, those in the interfaith faith world, and those who are curious about seeking help.”

“I have been overwhelmed by the amount of time and resources given generosity by individuals and organizations for this event. It’s going to be spectacular. But if we help just one person, we’ve accomplished our mission,” says Rev. White.
