Ready to get your anger under control? Watch this short video to understand why you may be feeling angry and what you can do to better manage your emotions.

What is anger, and how to manage it. Anger is a natural, though sometimes unwanted or irrational, emotion that everybody experiences from time to time. Anger is a response to other emotions. The majority of times when you’re angry–like in traffic, or at your boss, or at your coworkers, or at your family–it’s because you feel as if you’ve lost control over certain things in your life.

Some common anger triggers would include injustice, feeling disrespected, being shamed, being blamed, feeling hurt, and being stuck in a situation you don’t want to be stuck in.

Anger is detrimental to both your physical and mental health. It can weaken your immune system, increase your risk of experiencing a heart attack, and worsen feelings of anxiety and depression. It is also one of the most common relapse triggers. Learning how to effectively manage your anger is important.

Here are some simple tips to help you keep your anger in check:

  • Count to 10 (or 100 if you’re really angry)
  • Take deep breaths for 2-3 minutes.
  • Go on a short walk outdoors.
  • Relax your muscles.
  • Listen to your favorite song.

By taking some time to step away from whatever or whoever is making you angry, you will be able to react rationally rather than emotionally. So, don’t let anger ruin your day. Learn to recognize anger triggers and implement some anger management techniques, and you will be on your way to a happier, healthier life.
