Virtual Continuing Education for Recovery Professionals: Addiction and Trauma Recovery Through an IPNB Perspective

About this Event

2.5 Free CE Credits Available for Licensed Social Workers

This is a Virtual Course via Zoom.

Presented by Anthony Nave, Senior Manager of Outpatient Services at Mountainside Treatment Center, Canaan.

Substance Use Disorders and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are two common comorbid disorders, and at times the recovery process for each can feel daunting or complicated. With more literature and research describing addiction as an attachment disorder, and PTSD as a healing process engaged with the safety of others, Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) is a theory and practical working model that can help professionals work with clients struggling with these disorders. This presentation is an introduction on how to integrate an IPNB perspective with your current skill set to help clients navigate the addiction and trauma recovery process.

Objectives

This in-depth presentation will:

1. Define IPNB.

2. Summarize addiction as a disease model.

3. Summarize how PTSD physically forms and impacts the brain.

4. Summarize how healing from addiction and PTSD is a bottom-up process in the brain.

5. Identify and summarize the three stages of Trauma Recovery, through Dr. Judith Herman’s Trauma Recovery Model.

Support Groups

It is often said that the opposite of addiction is not sobriety, but connection. Having a strong support system is paramount to your sobriety and recovery journey. At Mountainside, we offer a wide range of in-person and virtual support groups for individuals in recovery and friends and families with loved ones in recovery. These groups are designed to help you stay connected to like-minded individuals regardless of where you are.
