Canaan, CT — Mountainside is proud to announce its 20th year as one of the leading addiction treatment centers across the country. With two decades of innovation and steady growth behind it, Mountainside continues to deepen and expand its programming to help clients achieve long-term sobriety.

Founded in 1998 by a small group of friends who were interested in taking a different approach to addiction treatment – one that focused on an individual’s needs rather than a pre-determined treatment methodology – Mountainside has evolved from a single residential treatment program to a full-scale treatment center with a complete continuum of care, multiple locations, and more than 250 employees.

The early success of combined evidence-based clinical treatments and complementary wellness practices indicated a growing demand for a holistic approach to addiction treatment. Seeing an opportunity, Mountainside developed and introduced several proven holistic interventions to its programming: yoga, adventure-based counseling, music therapy, meditation, acupuncture, art therapy, and forest bathing.

Mountainside is committed to delivering innovative, powerful, and robust addiction treatment in a deeply individualized way. “Our success and longevity are due in part to our understanding that a person suffering from addiction is much more than their disease,” said retired co-founder and board member Terence Dougherty. “We decided early on to treat our clients in a compassionate and professional way as complex people with complex needs. Through customized, individualized treatment, we have helped change 13,000 lives for the better.”

With plans to celebrate its 20th throughout 2018, Mountainside kicked off its anniversary festivities at each of its three locations – Canaan, CT, Wilton, CT, and New York City.  A series of educational workshops geared towards medical professionals as well as the public will take place throughout the year.

In honor of this milestone anniversary, Mountainside has received commendations from public officials, including Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy and U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT). The addiction treatment center was also recognized by the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut in an official citation introduced by Representative Brian M. Ohler, 64th District, and Senator Craig Miner, 30th District.

Looking ahead to the next 20 years, Mountainside is positioned to continue its innovation and growth  – into a behavioral health platform, harnessing the power of data to improve treatment outcomes.

“We see Mountainside deepening and expanding its data-driven approach. We see more specificity in our levels of care and the approach to each of those levels of care,” said co-founder and Managing Director Martin Fedor. “At the end of the day, we do what we do for each and every client. We want to provide each client the best shot at a long-lasting recovery and a happy life.”
