Canaan, CT – Today, Mountainside’s Detox program commemorates five years of offering lifesaving support to those struggling with addiction. Since June 18, 2014, Mountainside’s dedicated team of staff has helped thousands of Detox clients build the foundation for healthy, fulfilling lives in recovery.

For those struggling with addiction, medically monitored detoxification is often the crucial first step to a sober lifestyle. During this process, a team of clinical professionals ensures clients’ safety and comfort as dangerous toxins are removed from the body. Those who abruptly discontinue using drugs or alcohol on their own may experience uncomfortable and even life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. The adverse effects of withdrawal discourage many from pursuing the next stages of recovery.

“When clients admit to our services, it is often one of the most vulnerable days of their lives,” says Dr. Randall Dwenger, Medical Director at Mountainside. “They are at a vital crossroads in their lives as they step across that threshold into our lobby. Their lives are no longer on the trajectory they had planned and hoped for themselves, and they look to us to help them find a new path.”

Detox programs generally focus on the physical aspects of substance use disorders, but Mountainside Detox offers an array of recovery resources that target addiction’s impact on the body, mind, and spirit. In addition to medical services, Mountainside’s Detox program presents clients with nutrition education, individual and group counseling, continuing care planning, and complementary wellness therapies that encourage meaningful change.
