Jana Wu
Director, Clinical Integration
Jana is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor with a master’s degree in social work from Smith College. Jana specializes in treating post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and co-occurring disorders. With experience in therapeutic roles throughout Mountainside’s continuum, she is especially skilled at navigating complex family dynamics and supporting veterans as well as healthcare and wellness professionals. Jana ensures clients receive quality, individualized treatment by supporting staff development and training. In her sessions, she draws from Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and utilizes EMDR and somatic and experiential therapies. She also incorporates mindfulness and breathwork through her experience as a yoga teacher.
Jana is a nationally recognized expert on kratom, with coverage in the Wall Street Journal, the Hartford Courant, and iHeartRadio. She is the founder of the first and only clinician-led kratom support group in the country. She has presented on kratom and emerging substances to professional audiences nationally, including the Association of Recovery in Higher Education, the Employee Assistance Professionals Association, and state agencies. Her writing has appeared in Psychology Today, and she has a research paper forthcoming with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Jana also co-chairs the Addictions Committee for the National Association of Social Workers of Connecticut. Outside of work she enjoys practicing meditation and traveling with her family.
