Two Bodies

by Jonathan

Alarm goes off, two bodies remain.

Always a light sleeper, I jolt awake.

I shake a few bourbon-tinged stars from my head and listen.

I hear porcelain clanking from the kitchen, water rushing into the pot as McKenzie makes coffee.

Next to me, still in her sheet but for one naked extended leg, Julianna still sleeps.

I’m immensely grateful for the respite before the awkward glance of acknowledgment.

Did we really do that last night?

Can Juli and I survive it?

Will we do it again?
