Canaan, CT – Mountainside Treatment Center, a world-class provider of comprehensive behavioral healthcare, introduces “Sober Curious 101,” a group workshop held over four weekly online sessions starting February 4th from 6:30-7:30pm. The workshop guides individuals on a mindful exploration of their relationship with alcohol and cannabis, helping them discover a balance that aligns with their values and goals.

“Mountainside believes in multiple pathways to healing and Sober Curious 101 is a reflection of this philosophy,” says Jana Wu LCSW, Senior Moderator of Sober Curious 101. “As we begin the new year, this course is an opportunity to explore sobriety as a flexible, lifestyle-oriented choice rather than a strict abstinence adherence.”

In the United States, young adults are engaging in mindful drinking and becoming more health conscious. According to a Gallup poll, researchers found that the number of younger adults who say they drink has fallen from 72 percent to 62 percent over the last two decades. What initially began as temporary abstinence challenges, like “Dry January” or “Sober October,” has led many people to make permanent lifestyle changes.

Led by licensed clinical specialists, Mountainside’s Sober Curious 101 workshop is offered online and in-person at their outpatient location in Ramsey, NJ. The group workshop aims to help individuals:

  • Examine the factors that influence a person’s alcohol and cannabis use.
  • Understand how substances affect different aspects of their life such as health, sleep, and relationships.
  • Learn strategies for practicing mindfulness and drinking moderately.
  • Join a supportive community of like-minded individuals.
  • Build an action plan with specific, intentional goals to help you succeed.

Sober Curious 101 participants will leave the course with a clearer understanding of their relationship with substances and an action plan to help them take immediate steps toward supporting their overall well-being.
