To fortify your newfound sobriety, you may need time and space away from triggers and negative influences to strengthen your recovery. Extended Care, our long-term residential addiction treatment program, consists of three phases to help you develop the fundamental skills and abilities you need to prevent relapse and successfully live a happy, healthy life in recovery. With the support of professionals and a welcoming community of peers, you will transition from one phase to the next, becoming better prepared for and gaining confidence in independent sober living.

Extended Care Program Overview

Our unique program is made up of four components — Community Living, Outpatient Services, Work Program, and Fun and Adventures — designed to help you develop constructive behaviors and healthy lifestyle habits while engaging with the wider community. As you learn and practice sober living, you master skills needed to maintain long-term sobriety once you leave Mountainside and return to your everyday life.

Community Living

Learn proper self-care, establish structured daily routines, build a support network with peers in our warm and welcoming sober houses, and partner with your case manager to set goals and devise plans to achieve them.

Extended Care Offerings

In addition to being part of a supportive community in our modern and spacious sober houses, as part of our Extended Care program, you have access to a range of addiction treatment services and wellness activities offered at our main Mountainside campus.

Clinical

Substance abuse counseling and education are essential to help you better understand and overcome your alcoholism or drug addiction. Through a wide array of clinical therapies and services, you will uncover the root of your addiction, better understand your behavior, as well as learn positive stress-coping and relapse-prevention skills that will empower you to lead a substance-free life.

Q: What is the difference between Extended Care and sober living?

Sober living refers to living in an alcohol and drug-free home with other individuals in recovery. Our Extended Care program offers sober living and more.
Four components make up our Extended Care program – Community Living (i.e. sober living), Outpatient Services, a Work Therapy Program, and sober Trips and Adventures. Through this unique combination of programming, you will develop life skills, receive clinical treatment, earn money while practicing job skills, and participate in a variety of fun activities. Mountainside’s sober living Extended Care house is not licensed or certified to provide substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services on site. Those who choose to live at our Extended Care house opt in to live together with other individuals in a supportive environment during their recovery. All clinical and substance abuse services are provided outside of the Extended Care house, in various other locations at the Mountainside treatment center main campus.
